Before You Teach the Evangelism Workshop

Why run this workshop?

What should the workshop look like?

  • Length: 3 lessons, about 1 hour each (can be split over several days).

  • Format: Small group / church workshop / youth group / home meeting.

  • Style: Interactive, discussion‑based, practice training-periods.

Which materials should I use? (Basic vs. Enhanced)

Basic setting (no printer/no projector):

  • Use: Leader’s Notes (phone or print)

  • Students: blank paper or notebooks

  • Optional: provide simple worksheets

Enhanced setting (projector/printer available):

  • Use: Leader’s Notes + Leader’s PowerPoint

  • Optional: print Leader’s Workshop Handbook

  • Optional: print Student Handbook or Worksheets

General preparation checklist

  • Promote the time, location, etc.

  • Pray and study through all 3 lessons.

  • Decide: basic or enhanced setup (what can you realistically use?).

  • Check your time and schedule (3 × 1 hour or split sessions).

  • Gather materials: Bibles, pens, paper or printed worksheets/handbooks.

  • Test equipment if using PowerPoint (projector, speakers, power supply).

  • Positive spiritual growth of participants and congregation

  • Reaching people in your community for Christ

  • Multiply the ministry of your leadership by equipping the saints

Lesson 1 – Why Share Our Faith?

Suggested time: 60 minutes. Adapt as needed.

A. At a Glance

  • Help students understand Biblical reasons behind sharing the Gospel.

  • Matthew 28:19-20

    • "Go therefore...": A directive to actively spread the message.

    • "...make disciples": The goal is to bring people to follow Jesus.

  • Group size: make sure participants can see, hear and easily take notes.

  • Recommended setting (church hall, home, youth group, etc.).

B. Timing Guide

  • 5 min – Welcome and opening prayer

  • 5 min – Discuss in pairs: What motivated you to attend?

  • 45 min – Bible reading and explanation & discussion

  • 5 min – Application and prayer

D. Steps to Lead the Lesson

  1. Welcome and pray briefly.

  2. Introduce the topic in 2–3 sentences.

  3. Read the Bible passage for each point.

  4. Explain the key idea (use your notes).

  5. Ask 2–3 core discussion questions to engage participants as you facilitate.

  6. Summarize the main point.

  7. Invite personal responses and pray.

Lesson 2 – Starting Spiritual Conversations

Suggested time: 60 minutes. Adapt as needed. You may want to add time for practice/rehearsal time.

A. At a Glance

  • Help students turn common conversations into spiritual ones.

  • How to use Faith Stories to transition into a spiritual conversation.

  • Group size: make sure participants can see, hear and easily take notes.

  • Recommended setting (church hall, home, youth group, etc.)

B. Timing Guide

  • 2 min – Welcome and opening prayer

  • 3 min – Give a quick overview of what will covered in this lesson.

  • 40 min – Walk through the lesson explaining key points.

  • 15 min - Have students write a Faith Story and discuss in groups of 3.

  • Closing remarks and prayer.

D. Steps to Lead the Lesson

  1. Welcome and pray briefly.

  2. Introduce the topic in 2–3 sentences.

  3. Explain the key points of the lesson (use your notes).

  4. Ask 2–3 discussion questions to engage participants.

  5. Provide time for participants to write/discuss a Faith Story using the worksheet.

  6. Invite personal responses to the exercise and pray.

Lesson 3 – Explain the Gospel Using John 3:16

Suggested time: 60 - 90 minutes. Adapt as needed. You may want to add time for practice/rehearsal time.

A. At a Glance

  • Help students to organize key talking points when explaining the Gospel.

  • Romans 1:16

    • "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation..."

  • Group size: make sure participants can see, hear and easily take notes.

  • Recommended setting (church hall, home, youth group, etc.)

B. Timing Guide

  • 2 min – Welcome and opening prayer.

  • 45 - 60 min – Go through the lesson using notes; ask a few questions to engage participants.

  • 10- 20 min – Pair up and take turns talking through the Gospel using their notes.

  • 5 min – Invite personal responses to the lesson and close in prayer.

D. Steps to Lead the Lesson

  1. Welcome and pray briefly.

  2. Introduce the topic in 2–3 sentences.

  3. Work through each point using your leader's notes.

  4. Provide time to participants to use their notes to talk through the Gospel using John 3:16.

  5. Encourage them to watch for divine appointments to share the Gospel with others and pray.
